Songs for Opening Sequence

Seeing as my half of the group are taking on the opening sequence I decided to look into some music for our sequence.
Here are some I really like.

Closing Sequences

I personally felt that the closing sequence was more difficult then the opening as, I couldn't really think of many really enjoyable ones. Alot of them are just rolling credits. So I took the time and had a look into some. Here are some......

Stop Motion

I tried my hand at some stop motion to see what it would be like to shoot like this.
Here's my attempt
I don't think I did too bad for a first attempt, but obviously it could have been alot better. I do however really like how the music goes with the piece.

Opening Sequence

For our opening sequence we  had several ideas on how we were going to shoot it. We were thinking about doing stop motion. As none of us have had experience with stop motion I done some research into how to do it.

I found a nice website with a good tutorial on how to, here:

These are some stop motion videos I really enjoyed.

Media Watch

This is a beautifully shot video on the stylish older women of New York. I love the colours in this.

Some photos from recording our ENG

Our Advert

This is our final advert that we made. We used the song 'At Last' by Etta James, as we thought it fit perfectly with the story we were trying to tell in our advert.

Media Watch

I love this video, it was all done in one shot and only cost them about £100 to make.

Advert Research

We've actually steered clear of the ideas we initially at the start of the year and went for something completely  different. We're doing our advert on Plenty kitchen towels. In our advert we were hoping to come across similar to the old diet coke ads, with the office women ogling the attractive builder.

I also watched some other adverts see what ones I liked and didn't like, here are some that stuck out to me.

Slow Movement

In our show we're in some respects trying to channel the ethos of the slow movement. This is when people slow down their fast paced living style and reclaim some of their time back. It's about giving meaning to the areas of our lives that are more important or finding the meanings.  It’s all about balance, time for silence, time for planning, time for observing, time for reflection, time for caring, time for friendship, time for loving.

There's even an institute for slow living, called "The World Institute of Slowness" This was founded by Geir Berthelsen.
TWIOS work by these 3 values,
  1. Transparency
  2. Simplicity
  3. Consciousness

Life Hacks

Life Hacks are tips and tricks that can help to improve your life. They're also mostly easy to do.  Anything that solves an everyday problem in a clever or non-obvious way might be called a life hack.

Here are some examples of life hacks that I thought were pretty good.

Using extra or old shower curtain hooks in your wardrobe to hold bags,

Using a cheap or old shower cap to keep shoes in when travelling to avoid getting clothes dirty

Using your pillow cases as storage for the same quilt cover, meaning you'll always have matching bed clothes

Using a wine cork to as earring holder

Here are some links to websites that can help to give you some handy tips and tricks.

There are many more websites out there, just type Life hacks into google and you're sorted.

I love how this video is shot, I also think that the concept is wonderful. It's just an all round nice video. Really enjoyed watching.

Flea Market

We decided to include some shots in our ENG of the flea market as we felt that it intertwined well with the other half of our  ENG with Cat and Ellen.

The idea of a flea market also goes well with our show concept of slow living and and fixing up old things to make them new.
Flea markets are places where you can go to sell or buy old good you have like clothes and records etc, it's also a place where people can sell on stuff they've made from scratch.

In Dublin there are several Flea Markets, the one we've chosen to shoot in is the Dublin Flea Market.

"The Dublin Flea Market opened its doors for the first time in November 2008 and since then it has grown into one of Dublin's most loved markets. It takes place on the last Sunday of every month in The Co-op on Newmarket square, Dublin 8 and being indoors means it is safe from the unpredictable Irish weather. Taking place just once a month there's always a great buzz at the Flea. As well as a great day out for bargain hunters, the market gives people to take a stall, hone in on their haggling skills and play shop for th day. The Flea community is ever growing."

Róthar

Rothar is the Irish word for bike. It's also the name of the shop where we'll be doing part of our ENG  piece.

We feel that Rothar not only fit in with our concept but also covers the topic of fixed gear bikes within our ENG.  They take old bikes into their shops, any bikes at all, broken or not and attempt to fix them up and sell them on or use the parts for other bikes. They also have workshops in which they teach people how to fix their own bikes up. They have and eco friendly mentality that is prevalent in our 'throwawayism' society.

There's more information about the bike shops and it's other services on their website

Media Watch

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Mini Documentary, from their 5 day stint in the Old Vic Tunnels in March 2011.

I like the band itself and I also enjoy the way that this documentary was shot.
